This striking bracelet is highlighted by an antique African Trade Bead. These 19th century beads were handmade in Murano, the tiny island next to Venice, Italy, and traded with Africa. So important was this glass bead-making to Venice's prosperity that the master glass blowers were treated as royalty...but were not allowed to leave the island state. The bracelet is completed with bright blue Afghani lapis.
This one-of-a-kind bracelet carries a long history and fascinating story and is a conversation starter!

We discovered this outstanding pair of antique Turkoman silver bracelets on a trip to Ladakh, in the high desert of the Indian Himalaya. Ladakh has a fabulous mixture of cultures as it is at the confluence of Islamic and Buddhist cultures. People have wandered across the Himalayas and through the deep valleys for ages. These 19th century sterling silver bracelets with carnelian were originally plated in gold, and now have a beautiful luster. They are from the Tekkie tribe of northern Afghanistan or southern Turkmenistan and made their journey to Ladakh sometime over the past century.
You will make quite a powerful statement when you wear these fabulous bracelets and will have a great story to go with them!
