Antique Tibetan Silver Gau

This antique Tibetan box is called a gau or g'au. When Tibetans travelled they carried boxes these types of boxes to hold their sacred Buddhist relics and prayers. This box was for a man and you can see the silver buckles on the sides, which allowed for a belt to fit through so that the owner could carry it over their shoulder.

This gau is handmade from sterling silver and depicts sacred animals and other lucky designs, and the face of a mythical garuda is at the top. The back and sides are made of worn copper.

This antique Tibetan prayer box makes for a unique collectible!
