These amazing Natural Pashmina shawls are handmade from the finest quality cashmere in the world. The famed Pashmina, or Changthangi, goat was at the heart of the cashmere trade that started centuries ago in Kashmir where 'pashmina' literally translates to 'soft gold." Cashmere is made in many places around the world. The secret to pashmina is that it only comes from this special goat that lives high in the Ladakhi Himalaya.
Today, these light brown and cream goats wander the high elevations of the Indian Himalaya with their 'Changpa' herders. After spending the winter above 13,500 feet, they bring their goats down to the valleys in the summer and comb out the under fleece from their herds. The herders sell the raw pashmina to specialized craftsmen who comb, spin and weave the fibre by hand using traditional methods.
Our natural pashmina shawls are 100% pashmina and the color is all natural. These authentic pashmina shawls will add a touch of luxury to your wardrobe!
Size: 220 x 105 cm (87" x 41")
*We also carry a smaller version Natural Pashmina Scarf (220 x 76 cm, 87" x 30" ) so look for this product too!

This work by Nepal’s contemporary religious master artist Udaya Charan Shrestha is named Mahalaxmi, meaning ‘the great Laxmi.' It depicts the goddess Mahalaxmi, the eighth mother goddess, Asta Matrika, in Nepalese Hinduism. She emerges from a lotus in a churning sea, holding Newar ornaments against blazing flames. Mahalaxmi is in the permanent collection of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan. This stunning paubha highlights Udaya’s style through its intricate detail, contemporary sensuality and creative originality.
This original thangka, or paubha in Nepal, is painted in the traditional manner with a twist. Rather than paint with ground mineral pigments, Udaya paints primarily with oil paint on primed cotton canvas. He is a master of detail as can be seen in the incredible jewelry, ornaments and beautiful face. A painting of this size will take several months to compose, sketch and complete.
As the original painting has sold, Mahakala Fine Arts has produced a Collector's Edition print so that you can collect this museum quality work of art.
