Shakyamuni Buddha by Mukti Singh Thapa

This work by master artist Mukti Singh Thapa is of Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha. Buddha means 'Enlightened One' and Shakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism. Born in Lumbini, Nepal, Shakyamuni spent most of his life in India where he gained enlightenment under a bodhi tree. He spent the remainder of his life traveling and teaching the Dharma. This outstanding piece displays Thapa's mastery of the 13th - 16th century Newar Design style through its rich color palette, precise lines, and use of traditional iconography.
